Not so well.
Yeah, I think it probably took a backseat in my mind and I failed my A-levels because I was in a band with Paul Heaton.
I didn't get a rollicking, but I... So, yeah, I retook my A-levels at evening classes, but when I went to college, like Polytechnic College, I'd kind of said to myself, I mustn't be in a band with Paul Heaton.
If I'm going to do the three years, there's no way that's going to work if I'm still in this band with Paul.
We had to split up the band, which is a shame because we were beginning to be successful.
But again, I got lucky because I threw myself into DJing for three years when I was at college, which stood me in great stead later on in my career.
Well, this is the sound of my young rebellion.
The Clash still are my favourite band ever.
They had everything.
They had ideas, they had attitude, they had the fashion, they had the politics.
They had the swagger.
They were just the best gang in town.
Yeah, White Man and Hammersmith Palais,
That would have been just when I started DJing.
When punk wasn't thrashy really fast, it was experimenting with different genres.
And this is kind of like, it's about a white guy going to a reggae concert and being the only white man there, which I can kind of identify.
I've been to hip hop shows where I was like the only white person in the building.
And so I've kind of identified with that.
But the musical eclecticism of The Clash, but still with the greatest attitude and swagger ever.
We billed ourselves as an international beach band.
