The specialist recently told me I have no prostate cancer.
As to the BRACGEN, not my doctor or specialist has ever mentioned a test for the BRACGEN and how many men without a prostate issue would even know if they have this gene?
That is usually there's a strong family history.
I as the GP am aware and I send you to a familial cancer clinic which is very well resourced with genetic counsellors and you undergo testing.
But it's not for everybody, it's not a run-of-the-mill test.
It's probably just worth saying at this point um and about genetic testing is that it's really important to know
what goes on in your family and what has gone on in your family in the past.
So and not everybody knows that, but it's just uh and it's important to know from a a fairly early age.
So have people been diagnosed with cancer under the age of sixty?
Is there a pattern of cancers?
Um so for example, it may not just be it may not be the same cancer.
You might have
had there might be a first degree or second degree relative who's had breast cancer and then a first degree relative who's had prostate cancer, but there's a lot of cancer around at an early age.
That's a sort of signal that's worth talking to your doctor about.
And then you might get tested for the genes after you've had some counseling.
