But I, as a Masterji Capoeira, the person that I am at this time, will call it a healing art.

It is a ritual for survival, survival of the spirit that comes directly out of the enslaved peoples in Brazil.

And it's rooted in ritual practices from the Congo and West Africa of circling and going in the center and playing music, which is true in many inside of different spiritual traditions in Africa as a way of just being together, but also accessing power.

of various kinds um and it it it was born the way we know capoeira is you know it doesn't live in that very specific same way in africa it it was born in brazil in the specific way we know capoeira from those roots

influenced by indigenous peoples, some of the instrumentation also from Spain and Portugal.

So we see a combination of different cultural influences and we see a ritual art form that was created for the survival of the spirit inside of tremendous oppression.

And it is a place, I like to say, where you learn how to respond creatively to danger.

So fundamentally, it is a training in adaptability and creativity and resourcefulness and also in community building.

Because the jada or the wheel, the ritual form that we make to play capoeira inside of it, we say play.

Yeah, requires, and it's not play like play with toys.

It's a different kind of play.

It's like playing like with balls.

I get the joke.

So the practice of the hada is only done with everyone.

It's in a circle.

And all the people in the circle are clapping and singing and giving attention.

So they're the cauldron.

And the instrumentation is part of the circle.

But the instrumentation is creating the rhythm and the songs and making comments and also building the sound, the volume.
