But we also need to invest in public transport, invest in safe routes to schools, uh uh to to give people the options to not need a car, uh, and that means we have to bring in bring in taxation from from motoring.

Uh and probably the fairest thing now is to incre include a surcharge for weight on VRT to make it fairer.

I mean and and we've already seen that with the with the M fifty, that when you build uh a a motorway and that's supposed to be a bypass and then you make it a high street by putting all the supermarkets around it, it runs out of space and they they increase the space and it runs out of space again.

And look, that study from Transport and Environment says if we keep going the same way as we are now, we'll have at least 10% less on-street parking spaces by 2040, because there simply won't be won't be room for as many cars on the streets.

And we'll have 400 additional deaths, 40 which will be children by 20 a year by 2040 if we keep going with bigger and bigger cars.

So I don't think we keep we keep trying to accommodate our car parks or our streets to cars.

I mean we can't like around Dublin for sure.

I know and equally on rural roads, there's lots of places now where two cars can't pass each other.

And there's actu there's no there's no way around that unless you're gonna move the houses uh or move the hedges and that's not that's not practical on most of our roads.

Well, first of all, you pay two cent uh every year it's two cents extra on on a liter of petrol or diesel is the carbon tax compared to the incre increase we've had because of Trump's war on a on a on Iran, which was like a 30 cent increase in the space of a few weeks.

Uh and then when we reduced excise duty, it entirely removed the last fifteen years of carbon tax.

So like carbon tax is not a big issue when it comes to to the price of of motoring at all.
