On the Day of the Dead, 1975, he had dinner with Nenet Javioli, his collaborator and his long-term love.
And then he went down to Termini Station and he picked up a boy, a teenager, and went to Ostia, the beach just outside Rome, for sex.
And...
He was beaten to death.
He was run over by his own car and his heart burst.
And actually, when I was in Berlin doing research, I was shown the photos, the crime scene photos of Pasolini's body.
And it is beyond horrific.
So this boy, Pelosi, was picked up driving Pasolini's very famous, very visible silver Alfa Romeo car.
erratically through the streets of Rome, a very visible sort of figure.
And he was arrested and tried and sentenced and went to prison for the murder.
He had no blood on him.
There were lots of reasons why it seemed very unlikely that he was actually the person who killed him.
And also that one sort of 16 year old boy had managed to inflict this much damage.
None of his stories sort of quite made sense.
So what seems probable is that Pasolini's murder was arranged and organised, as is very common to this day in Italy.
And I think people are fairly clear about what the gang was that were involved in organising the murder, but less clear about who specifically targeted it, who specifically sort of requested it.
