And it's a book about film.

Yeah, absolutely, because they are really different.
And it was so fun to sort of... It felt almost transgressive to approach them by way of fiction.
And maybe I'll just say something about the research, actually, which is I didn't start writing the book immediately.
I waited a year.
And I thought about it and I spent a lot of time watching not just their films, but lots and lots of documentaries because I wanted to have a really strong sense of like, how does Fellini cross the room?
What kind of jacket does Pasolini wear?
Like, what are their voices like?
So I was trying to sort of really, I don't know, immerse myself in that so that when I did come to write, it would feel quite natural.
And Fellini is this massive character.
He's constantly flirting with everyone who crosses his path.
He is very performatively sexual.
But at the same time, I think there's a big question mark over how much of that is actually
out and how much is really going on.
So there's an interesting, complex sexuality about Fellini, especially at this moment, because...
He's late middle-aged.
He's been married to the same woman all the way through.
And it's not that his star is waning.
