We've really, in a pretty sad way, kind of lost touch with our social selves.

One of our major gripes at the

attempting to make friends in their own home.

It's a disaster from jump.

And I think that many of us can identify at least with the anxiety of that process that you nailed.

It's very specific to this age.

And when one person is more willing to play that social game than the other.

Just embrace this rug conversation and just participate because by stonewalling it, you're making it impossible for this kind of like social lubrication to take hold for us all to move through this so we can survive this night.

Absolutely, yes.

I mean, it was... Part of it is a result of having shot the film in sequential order, which was, by design, it was something I was really excited about.

I've never done that before.

But the result of that, of course, is that by the time you finish the film, you really have felt...

the rhythm of the film as it comes together, not just through making an assembly as you shoot, which we often do, but really experiencing how the energy flows, knowing when it dips, knowing when it's going to need an extra jolt of energy through the editorial process, through music or whatever it is.

This project was also new for me because there were no kind of extra bells and whistles that are often used to inject said energy into something.

There's no cutting to a different location or any sort of magical realism or anything like that.

We are a linear story told within one environment.
