The rhythm was clear to me in a visceral sense, having directed it and, of course, performed in it, so I could feel it in my body.

But sitting down and editing the film was about kind of finding the rhythm that would allow the story to feel like a train that's run off the tracks.

Because that is what the movie's about.

It's a comedy of errors.

And...

I wanted you to feel propelled through it in a sort of out-of-control way, but in, of course, a very controlled way.

You're in the hands of a film that is holding you, but I want you to feel that you are unable to predict the next moment, and you are delighted by that.

And certainly when directing and editing comedy, as you said, specifically someone as brilliant as Seth Rogen and the way...

He improvises, and there's always an option to use another alt from Seth, to use an off-camera interjection, a joke that is kind of barely heard, kind of thrown away, and often those are my favorite jokes.

And when to use it or when you've kind of overused them, that was one of the more fun parts of the editing process.

It felt like if we were kind of a—not to sound just—

really pretentious but if the four actors kind of felt like a jazz quartet and Seth is a is an instrument that is you know you hear it when it's there and it is very powerful and then it's using that kind of wisely and making sure that you do it justice and you allow it to kind of

have the effect that he intends it to when he gives so much as a performer.

Everyone was firing on all cylinders, and then I had the great honor of then sitting there and making sure to calibrate it, but the rhythm felt baked in.

I've never experienced something like this where

I really felt I just had to listen to what the movie was to kind of ride the wave of the tone, to respond to it rather than to manipulate it.
