There are a handful of cases where those kind of first confirmed infections didn't necessarily ignite the epidemics that followed.
So we look at a case in Germany.
There was a woman who had traveled there from Shanghai.
Um she was the first person to be in Germany to be infected and her infection spent.
Sixteen cases, but it was actually contained very quickly and quite efficiently and then it didn't spread any further.
Well, if I knew I'd tell you, but we don't we don't know.
Kind of the research so far tells so far tells us that it was likely to be sometime maybe in November twenty nineteen.
So initially we had the kind of red herring of the seafood market where we had that first big cluster of cases, but some
Research kinda suggests that it was actually probably there a little bit earlier.
There was one report of a confirmed case in I think November seventeen that was reported by Chinese media based on some government data they'd seen.
Um, so there's that example and then I know they looked at things like search engine data and social media, um, to see if there was, you know, people reporting an increase in symptoms and so on.
And they found there was likely, yes, some circulation there.
But they're not too sure.
And when they've when they've done kind of genome sequencing, they've also been traced it back to a common ancestor in November.
Sure.
Well we kick off by we're in Haiti in 2010 where we follow a uh patient zero of a cholera outbreak there and the unusual way that cholera made its way to that country.

And then we've got a really unusual episode about a um a virus kind of transmission story through an organ transplant that happened in Melbourne a few years ago.
