So FIRE stands for, this is Kate's words, this is what it's all about.
So it's about increasing your savings rate, consuming less, pursuing happiness, and having the financial freedom and flexibility to choose if, how, and when you work.
So I think there's a few myths when it comes to fire.
And the first one I want to say is most people probably heard this.
You can't live in the moment if you're saving.
I have friends of mine who know that I'm a finance person.
And when I try and just entertain the conversation with them about saving more, like one of them makes maybe 150 grand a year, works his ass off.
He said to me when we were 21, I want to be a millionaire by the time I'm 30.
He's in so much debt, it's incredible.
Like, it is absolutely unbelievable.
And I think my wife down front here, Sarah, probably knows who I'm talking about.
It is actually incredible.
And the reason is he just doesn't open his mind up to this type of thing.
You've probably heard this before.
And particularly when it's something like fire, people will think, why would I want to do that?
I deny myself now for a sacrifice for the future.
But this is actually not the case.
So one thing that we've been doing, and I'm pointing to my partner down the front here, one thing we've been doing lately is this kind of like positive psychology trick that you can trick yourself into thinking better thoughts.
So every morning when we get up, and if you're single, you could do this with a friend or whatever, you might have a group that you can talk to someone with.
We have to list one thing that we're grateful for.
