Well, if you consider that maybe in June, in July alone, we probably did about 6,000 new EVs already.

So there was figures recently which had shown that all the ESB charging points can charge at the same time.

So of about 1,600, 1,400 only can operate at the same time.

So yeah, look, there's a bit of an issue happening.

But I suppose what we really wanted to do at Done Deal Cars was look at the data, do some sums and also remind people, look, if you're charging to 100%, especially at the fast chargers, a couple of things.

A, you're holding people up for a time that they don't really need to do, but also there's potentially you're damaging your battery a little bit.

Yeah, so most fast chargers will charge your car very quickly from, say, 10% to 80%.

So a typical car, best-selling one is the Volkswagen ID.4, so I'll use that as an example.

So it takes maybe 30 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%.

But then from 80% to 100%, the battery management system rapidly slows that charging down to save the longevity of the battery.

So in lots of cases, you will be...

potentially longer at the charging point, charging from 80 to 100% than you would be from the 10 to 80%.

So for some poor creature who's really anxious and waiting to get on their way and sitting behind someone waiting for the charging point, it's a little bit unfair, obviously, but also you're both paying too much for that charge because a lot of places like ESB will charge you an overstay fee beyond 40 minutes.

So you can be 50 cents a minute charged.

for those and then also and I don't want to alarm people but if you're looking after the longevity of your battery so how long that battery will retain its full capacity you are you are reducing that by charging at fast chargers especially up to 100% the longer you're on those fast chargers it's not necessarily getting it to 100% but the longer you're on those fast chargers that's when you will reduce the overall capacity of the battery so

That is that the car's battery management system is preserving its longevity.

It's a safety mechanism.

Yeah, because that heat... Imagine if you were opening and closing a door slowly.

But if you are slamming that door all the time, eventually the hinges will start to wear off.

It's a simple enough analogy.
