And in Brazil, they feed 40 million kids.
40 million kids.
And I've been to Brazil.
And that's one of the poorest places in the world, right?
Those favelas and other places are terrible.
But they feed 40 million kids.
And their food insecurity, so these are kids who suffer from poverty, who are susceptible to not having food at home, is they have a better rate than we do in New Zealand.
So their food insecurity is better than ours.
And food insecurity is a real thing.
So this is where there's some doubt about whether you're going to get your next meal.
For New Zealand, that's one in two MΔori kids and one in three Pasifika kids.
Or it might be the other way around, but it's pretty bad.
So let's eliminate that.
Let's take that out.
And so Dr Kelly Garton from Auckland University has done this study.
She thinks it would cost around $800 million a year to do, which is about 0.2% of our GDP.
But the other thing with this is when those programs started to be pulled back and peered back and reduced to practically nothing,
You lost jobs as well.
There were parents and others who were being employed to deliver and that kind of thing.
So if you grow this as an economy, you actually raise in other areas as well.
