So I think it took so long because they really tried to get the votes on that.

And I think you guys mentioned earlier, and it's absolutely true, it really was some of the Chicago Democratic lawmakers that really gummed up the works here.

And I go back about two months when

um state and chicago teachers union president stacy davis gates got involved wrote a letter to the legislative leaders whipped up people saying do not support this bill it's going to be bad for property taxpayers and it's going to deprive money of education that's her view then mayor brandon johnson who had sat out of this whole thing for a year it was out of his hands okay after the chicago gambit fell through

All of a sudden, he gets back on this.

And some state senators who are aligned with those two are then coming out saying, I can't support this.

I'm not going to put my vote to the Bears leaving the city of Chicago and potentially harming property taxpayers over the long term.

So.

Senator Cunningham was very clear that those things really put a wrench into what had been progress.

He also said the Bears put a wrench into this, too, when they started dialoguing.

And Marianne Ahern, my colleague, broke this story a couple weeks ago when they started talking to the mayor's office again, ostensibly about, you know, hypothetically, what happens if Arlington falls through?

Is there another site in Chicago?

I mean...

I thought they did their due diligence on this.

I thought they said Michael Reese wasn't going to work for them.

I thought, you know, it was pretty clear the lakefront wasn't going to work for, you know, getting any state assistance.

So all of a sudden, Cunningham was very clear that.

gummed up the works too so i think this is not a good outcome for anybody and there's blame to go around this is three years now that the bears have have been at this and you know there are hundreds of bills passed every session and behind those bills are people or organizations or interest groups and they've come up with a legislative strategy usually at the help of with the help of lobbyists

And they get it done.

And at the end of the day, the Bears didn't get it done.
