I should have turned around, walked the half mile back to my truck, driven until I had bars on my cell, and called everybody.

I was alone.

My radio was dead.

I had found what I'd found, and I had no business being one more minute in that camp.

I didn't, though.

I went back to the camp to see if there was anything that could tell me who'd been here.

I had it in my head that if I could give dispatch a name when I got back to the truck, that would matter.

That was the choice that nearly killed me.
