Diane didn't know it yet, but almost nothing about what was going on at the Center for Reproductive Health was going how she thought it would, how anyone thought it would.
Dr. Ricardo Ash certainly had his own way of doing things, but unfortunately for Diane and for others, it would be years before what Dr. Ash was really doing would come to light.
And so after these embryo transfers were unsuccessful with Dr. Ash, we're still in the early 90s.

Diane and Budge welcomed their daughter Claire in 1993.
Their journey to parenthood had been emotional, expensive, and at times all-consuming.
But now their baby girl was here, from a frozen embryo created at Dr. Ash's clinic.
After Claire is born, are you even thinking about Dr. Ash, or is he sort of like more in the back of your mind?

When Diane's sister called with the news about a scandal at UCI's fertility clinic, the Center for Reproductive Health, it was 1995.
The Orange County Register had broken the story on May 19th.
The very first line reads, The head of internationally acclaimed UCI Fertility Clinic harvested eggs from an Orange County woman without her consent and gave them to another patient who delivered a baby boy about nine months later.
It was jarring.
Still, Diane was reluctant to believe that she and her family could be involved.
She was told that Dr. Ash had retrieved 20 eggs during her retrieval, and she'd wanted all of them because there was no way for she and her husband to conceive naturally.
And each of her transfers were multiple embryo transfers.
Still looking back, she'd been told they'd seen 60 eggs on her ultrasound.
So why had she only gotten 20?
