James Joyce is one of the most studied writers in the world, but a new book shows there are still new ways of understanding the man and his work.
A major new biography argues that politics was one of the central forces that shaped his imagination.
The result is the portrait of a far more politically
Engaged, original, and intellectually independent Joyce than we may traditionally recognize.
The book is called James Joyce A Political Life.
It's published in Hardback by Princeton University Press.
The author is the late Frank Alanan, and to discuss the book and indeed Joyce's politics, I'm delighted to be joined by Bridget Harriken, who was married to Frank Alanan and who was part of the editorial team which brought the book to publication.
