Why, you know, what the sacrifice they made.
And yet there's still their remains are buried somewhere here under a sidewalk or under a building.
We don't know.
I mean, and many were captured, but granted, there were scores of men that were killed this day, 250 years ago, and their remains have still not been brought home.
Uh, I wanted to know that story, the enduring mystery.
I wanted to solve that mystery.
And uh that was the journey that began.
And it it was a it was a difficult one.
Uh my publisher didn't even want to touch the book.
They wanted me to write only World War II books.
That's a sort of a miracle in and of itself.
I had a new publisher, and eventually, uh, you know, we sold hundreds of thousands of copies of Washington's Immortals.
It's been really a tremendous
Tremendous journey to be able to connect with the families of those men that are you know still out there.
Uh and I spoke at the Maryland State House where Washington resigns his commission in front of all the officers of the Maryland line.
One of the most extraordinary and important moments in American history where
George Washington, who could have been a dictator or king, resigns his commission and gives back power to civilian control.
It's it you know, it's all tied together of of uh you know the the freedom, the ideals of freedom and liberty that these men
who gave up everything, including their lives, their fortunes, to you know, for a nation that had just been born only a month earlier, they sign the Declaration of Independence in their own blood and they they save our country.
The new book is will publish on the Marine Corps birthday on November 10th.
