He'd been pretending that he was the son of a Russian oligarch.
And so this guy, his name was Andrew, the friend of the family, he'd said about that much.
And I said, if this family will speak with me,
This is my next thing.
Yeah, I mean, I sort of know it when I see it with a story, and I usually know it almost immediately.
I feel a tickle.
Yeah, I don't have a kind of analytical... You know, usually I can look back afterwards and say, oh, it had this, it had that.
You know, it's a story of family.
It's got surprises.
It's got whatever.
But in the moment, I think I've gotten better.
I've been doing this 20 years, and I've gotten better at...
being very sensitive to my own interests and attention span.
And so if you start telling me a story and I feel myself moving in and kind of leaning in and I have questions and my heart rate picks up just a tiny bit, it's almost physiological, but that's usually a good indication to me that, first of all, that I'll be happy to invest the kind of time that I have to invest in these stories.
It'll sustain my own interest.
And then maybe more importantly, that I'll be able to sustain yours, sustain the readers.
So his family, Matthew and Rochelle, are today they're in their early 60s, kind of an upper middle class London family with a nice apartment in central London.
Matthew works in structured finance.
Rochelle's a freelance journalist.
