I think what it points to is Iran and the
US really uh stepping up the the battle for for over who claims control over the strait.
So the US says that Iran was preparing to fire these rockets uh in order to place mines around the Strait of Hormuz.

I think the reason that matters is because there's been something of a war of words between both sides over the past couple of weeks within the framework of this greater kind of debate over who actually controls the strait, the extent to which it's open, the US saying that it had removed all the mines or Trump's

specifically saying that and Iran saying no, that only it knew where all the mines are.

So the US I think seizing on on what it says was a deployment to add mines into the strait as a pretext for for a return to the the military option.

The direct confrontation between the US and Iran appears to be on hold and what we have instead are these isolated attacks on US partners or allies in the region, in the Gulf in particular, mostly being interestingly denied by Iran.
We had a few days ago there was a drone attack on the Prime Minister of Iraqi Kurdistan's office, and then just overnight we had this missile attack against
the UAE.
In both cases, Iran denied being connected to those attacks and it suggested that they might be false flag operations designed to implicate Iran in a new escalation of tensions.

We'd had Iran coming out uh in the past few days, basically frontloading all of its demands on things like sanctions, lifting, on compensation, uh and so on as a condition for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
That obviously hasn't gone down well in the US and Trump has tried to match it in kind

We just heard the repetition of the message that they're they're not engaged in talks with the US, but they are indeed exchanging messages via intermediaries.
So it just underlines I think yeah, we're we're stuck in this something of a loop where the two sides going back and forth.

I think we're caught in this kind of back and forth where one day the president will say,
They're on the verge of resuming military strikes or they're on the verge of a deal.
And now the latest is that they're trying to take some of the immediacy or expectations of immediacy out of the diplomatic dance.
