I'm going to go to a good business school in the U.K.

It's closer maybe to my home in France.

That seems more reasonable right now during this pandemic.

The visa policies are generally friendlier in some places like the Netherlands.

And even in Canada, more domestic students are just staying at Canadian schools.

They don't want to go across the border.

Overall, there's just been this shift to stay closer to home or go to a more friendly visa policy country like Canada or in Europe.

To give you an idea from a numbers standpoint,

At Wharton, their international student population last year was about 30% for the incoming class.

This year, it's down to 19%.

And at a place like Michigan, it's from 27% down to 18%.

And meanwhile, abroad, a place like the Imperial College Business School in London, international applications for its September class is up 55%.

In a study from business school consulting firm Carrington Crisp, their survey of prospective students, about half of them said they were more interested in studying in Canada this year.

And last year, it was just over 30%.

So big shifts there in terms of the interest level in some of these places while the numbers at US are declining.

And I will say the US schools say some of those students did choose to defer a year so they could always come back.

And there are a lot of factors that will dictate whether they do decide to come back in a year or two.

But the schools will point out that a lot of students from abroad chose to just skip this year.

Well, like I said, some students are staying closer to home.

So you might see students in Asia who don't want to come to the U.S.
