I ended up being in the web series and Lucia directed some of the web series.
And so it led to us doing the show.
And I think a lot of what we learned doing improv, like the idea of yes and, the idea of agreement, the idea of...
uh a mistake being something that can be woven in and actually making the thing better a lot of that we still use now another thing we learned and we tried to do in broad city and we try to do in hacks is that while every scene should like serve the story and tell the story it should also have a comedic game so there should be something else happening that's funny and repeatable a pattern you can repeat and that's like a improv 101 thing and so
I don't think everybody who writes necessarily has that exact way in, but it's something that we have always done.
And only recently were we, they're doing a, Matt Walsh is doing a book about UCB.
Can I say that?
I don't know.
Like an oral history of it.
And so we were talking to him about it.
And we were like, oh yeah, we actually do use a lot of like those tenants of improv in our everyday life and in the making of the show now.
And in Broad City was really scrappy, you know, it was like low budget Comedy Central show.
They like let people who had never, talk about people who've never been on TV.
We'd never written TV, none of us.
Chris Kelly was in the room and he had done some SNL, but none of us had written narrative TV.
they let us figure it out.
And we kind of had to just push through insecurity and doubt and just do it.
And we still do that.
That we're like, can we get in the loop?
And you just have to push through and be like, we're going to do it.
