Well, it adds another dimension to this case, to this whole affair, because, as I said in a piece I've written for the Irish Independent, that, you know, it incited this toxic, far-right, conspiracy theory pouting element in society that wasn't being taken very seriously.
it gave them an opportunity to incite basically the Dublin riots on the back of this horrific incident.
And that in itself, by doing so, they exposed themselves to the public in a way the public didn't appreciate before.
We didn't realise that maybe they would have that level of influence or could do that amount of damage.
For the first time, the state was very much taken off guard with these people.
The other part of it was that when the Dublin riots kicked off that evening, it exposed the chronic state that on Garda Síochána had been allowed to decline towards because the Gardaí literally that evening looked like... the thin blue line looked particularly weak and...
You had a situation where Gardaí were left leaderless, rudderless, because there was this fear at the time that if they engaged, if they did their jobs, if they confronted and tackled the rioters, that they themselves could find themselves being killed.

It was this, people may not forget all of this, but this was the very bizarre set of circumstances that pertained on that particular day on November the 23rd, 2023.
And the guard took a ferocious pummeling.
There was huge damage done, as everyone knows, in the city.
And it also, because of the guard response and because the guardie were
left on the back foot on that particular occasion, it inspired this toxic right-wing element to think that they were onto a good thing, that it bolstered their confidence so much so that then the following year, in July, we had these two days of ferocious rioting in Kulak, again around, which was all centered around the immigration issue, where
An IPAS centre was due to be opened in Coolock and these people were protesting on the site.
They were removed by the Guardian and all hell broke loose.
And then you have this huge army, well, significant army of feral thugs, young kids who just want to come out for a bit of recreational rioting like they did.
at the behest of the right-wing groups back in 2023.
And so we saw again the Gardaí on the back foot where they were surrounded.
As one Gardaí at the time told the Sunday Independent, we were like lambs being sent to the slaughter.
