But thankfully, you know, this cycle of violence that began around this horrific case back in 2023 came to a
a much more satisfactory ending, when they all turned up for another bout of rioting in Sagard following a horrific attack on a young child out there.
And they targeted the IPAS centre in Sagard.
And this time, the Gardaí, under a new commissioner,
um turned out not just in good numbers and strong numbers but in proper riot gear they were fully coordinated very cohesive strong response that basically uh as we said at the time you know the guardi finally won the battle and uh they took these guys on and for the first time the far right discovered oh well what started in o'connell street in 2023 came to an end because
you know, now the Gardaí were showing that they were more than capable and more than enthusiastic enough to take these people on and that's what happened.
Well, that's a good question.
Relationships within the organisation had broken down to such a level and morale was at such a dangerous low that the government and nobody paid any attention to it.
Nobody
took it on board, there's something, if we don't do something about this, then it's going to be reflected on how our police police the streets.
And that very much happened on the 23rd of November, which we called Black Thursday.
Tens of millions of euros were to damage, burnt out squad cars, burnt out buses, an incinerated Lewis, full-length Lewis.
You know, we had never seen anything like that.
That was unprecedented.
The fact that the Gardaí had expressed their lack of confidence in their commissioner was also unprecedented.
And all of these events effectively came together, and this horrific attack by Bruisachar provided the spark to light the conflagration.
Well, it illustrates, you know, the toxic cocktail that can occur when, and this is the produce of that cocktail, can occur when you have this right-wing, you know, malignant element, small enough element, but then using social media to then incite and incentivise a very disaffected society
large portion of younger delinquents to get out and start rioting.
I think that caught everybody by surprise at the time.
