Well, my father in later years, I mean, the bow tie belongs to earlier, doesn't it?
My father in later years, I mean, his great thing was the mountains and the outdoors, really.
So he'd be wearing a fleece and trousers.
Very, very practical.
And I mean, most of his ideas were scribbled on the edge of the Radio Times or something in the evening.
But then it was down into the workshop where he was very hands-on making stuff, making models.
And then it would probably be going to the Hilly showroom in Watford, driving models, prototypes there, working with the men on the shop floor.
I mean, had a very good relationship with them.
And then probably the technical drawings would be just a record of that or a guide to that afterwards.
That's right.
I'm sure that would be right.
Yes, or in discussion with the manufacturers.
Which is why we, and I say we meaning the Robin and Lucien Day Foundation, which I set up after my parents died.
We work with companies on reissues of the designs.
We always say the definitive design, there's very rarely a drawing which we could say, look, this is the design.
It's always about sourcing an original piece and working from that because if Hilly made it, if it was launched, my father would have approved it.
That would be the final stage of the design development.
I mean, after they died.
They both died in 2010, my mother in January, my father in November.
And partly through realising that there were more and more copies and their names being used to sell things which even then I realised were travesties.
