Despite us trying to override, I guess, those messages, clearly we couldn't.

And so we had to just have this time of healing.

We had to just let everything be whatever it was going to be.

Plus, he was dealing with all the emotional stuff of COVID.

There were so many layers going on on top of that.

The transition just did not look like what we expected.

He had been doing part in person and part online at home with my support schooling in high school.

He had made a goal for himself at the beginning of his junior year that he would go full-time in person his senior year.

We had talked about him having some sort of part-time job as well, so he could start preparing those independent skills, right, that we think about.

And none of that was able to happen because second semester of junior year, COVID, and he never went back to school in person at all.

He graduated mid-year, his senior year.

He was actually able to graduate a semester early.

And so

There was just so much emotional turmoil.

And he needed time.

There were no conversations about school whatsoever.

They would have gone nowhere.

They would have been in complete shutdown.

I knew that.

I knew that he was not going to be ready for some period of time to think about any sort of higher education or even like trade school sort of stuff.
