Now, sometimes those laws need to be changed, simplified, stripped down to the most important things.
I learned this very early on in my time in office where sometimes I was trying to get something done as a policy entrepreneur and somebody tapped the brakes on me and used a bureaucracy to do it.
Sometimes they were right.
Sometimes they made me better.
They made me sharpen what I was trying to do.
I think it can be all of those things.
And we've got some decisions to make about where AI goes.
And the simplest way I put it is this.
Either we're looking at a future where because of AI, we have a shorter work week and more money in our pocket.
Or we're looking at a future where there is even more extreme concentration of wealth and power in this country than we've already got.
And which way it goes, which of those things happen, it's actually not something that's in the technology.
It's not a tech question.
It's a policy choice.
It's about whether we make sure these technologies unfold in a way that is empowering for families and workers and college graduates and manage all of the harms that could come from it.
Every technology brings good and bad things.
And we've certainly seen that with digital technology.
We've seen it with social media.
We've seen it with the internet itself.
Good and bad things always.
AI has incredible capabilities.
