Let me give you one more.
Constitutional amendment to deal with money in politics.
If the Supreme Court said in the Citizens United decision...
that a corporation is the same thing as a person for these purposes and that spending money to manipulate an election is the same constitutionally protected behavior as writing an op-ed or carrying a sign at a protest.
We need to clarify that corporate spending is not speech and corporations are not citizens, people in the same way that a human being is.
And we can do that with a constitutional amendment.
Right.
Congress could, then you could actually have laws, which we used to have, like the McCain-Feingold law, which was struck down in Citizens United.
But we could get to where Congress can once more have laws saying that you can't put unlimited, unaccountable, corporate, dark money into a super PAC to manipulate how an election is going to go.
And it's one more of these things that like two thirds of the people think we ought to do.
Why does it happen then?
Because so many people who are already in office like the system just the way it is.
And because of the Supreme Court.
I actually think you could get it through Congress.
But the Supreme Court won't let you because their interpretation of the Constitution is that you can't have these kinds of rules.
So what do you do?
If necessary, amend the Constitution.
People forget.
The best thing about the Constitution is its capability to be amended.
