I don't know.

I think there's some R&B records that feel like that to me, where each part, even the horn parts, have a very precise role.

Yeah, Steve Crawford will play one note and make it mean a lot.

I think, yeah, I enjoyed not having to perform.

I didn't do it for a long time.

But at the same time, there was part about being on stage I always liked, of course, especially that era that we were on stage when it was all about screaming girls.

We enjoyed ourselves.

And so the idea of returning to live singing appealed to me as well.

And I did sing on a lot of the records I made.

A lot of backup vocals that I went, well, I'll do that.

But yeah, I have a healthy ego, I think.

I was happy to be known when I wasn't on stage.

When Rolling Stone put me on the cover, I went, yes, please.

That's true.

I suppose, yeah.

But that's what I was determined to do.
