And Paul Anka captured it perfectly, including the weird... Paul Anka actually put golly gee and whoopsie daisy into the lyrics to Guess It Doesn't Matter Anymore, which is something only Buddy Holly would dare to do.
When Paul moved in, my mother had a music room in the basement that she occasionally used for giving private oboe lessons, but didn't use much because she was very busy at her main gig, which was being oboe professor at the Royal Academy of Music.
so that room was pretty empty.
She said to Paul, if he ever needed a piano, he could use the piano in that room, which was a small upright piano.
He did quite often.
This particular day, John Lennon came over, who we'd met by this time, and they went down to this basement room.
After a couple of hours, I guess, called upstairs to see who was around and asked if I wanted to come hear the song they had just finished.
So I said yes.
came down, I sat on this little sofa, two-person sofa.
They sat side-by-side on the piano bench and hammered out.
Curiously, because it's odd that I won't hold it down, it was written on the piano in some respects, it's so much a guitar song.
But it was written on the piano and they played it to me and asked me what I thought.
And you said, I said, it sounds great.
And of course, what the ultimate clue is that what you says, that's amazing.
