That's exactly right.
One of the things that senior housing can do that you can't really do
when you're living in place, living at home, especially when a partner dies, is provide companionship, is to meet social needs.
That's still very hard for technology to do for you.
So yes, as long as senior housing gives you that advantage, gives you that social activity, it will be a draw for a lot of people.
But what planners are thinking about not only is bringing in new technology into homes, is to incorporate homes, smart homes, into communities so that you have these medical services, you have delivery services, your house can accommodate your needs as you age, and it's built into communities with people of all different ages.
Because I think when it comes right down to it, people...
want to be near other generations.
Old people don't want to be near a whole bunch of other old people.
Yes, they are.
And there are also many more amenities that are being built in.
I mean, today's senior housing has swimming pools and cafes and bistros and jogging paths and a lot of things that you didn't see in senior housing in the past.
So it is a bit of an arms race and no one really knows how much, how this will all turn out.
But there are reasons to be concerned if you're pumping a lot of money into senior housing right now.
