It's also clear that over the course of his time in Congress, he was a vocal opponent of the president, one of his chief antagonists, someone who was one of the prosecutors during his 2021 impeachment after January 6th, someone who the president has kind of celebrated his downfall.
With that reality, the Department of Justice now has to contend with at least the allegation out there that this might be political.
And it makes it difficult for prosecutors to kind of move forward with the case because they have to deal with the baggage of all those other cases that have been branded political.
Think of the James Comey case, think of the Letitia James case.
That baggage now comes with any case they pursue, especially if it's against a politician.
Right.

Yeah, Brad, uh, really stark differences between prosecutors and defense lawyers, even though, as you mentioned, they agree on the fundamental underlying allegations here that Lindsay Clancy strangled her children on January twenty fourth, twenty twenty-three.
Prosecutors say she was deliberate, she was meticulous, she planned this out.
She went as far as to send her ex-husband Patrick out to do errands, so she had a window of time to do this.
They allege that she basically became dissatisfied with the life she had and was looking for a way out, and that she planned this out on her own.
She did research, they think, they allege, and when the time came, when she was alone in the home with these children, she brought them into the basement of their family home in Duxbury, Massachusetts, and strangled them with an exercise band before she went upstairs to her own bedroom where she tried to kill herself.
They allege all of this was meticulously planned, this intentional thing that she did to get out of a situation she was no longer happy with.
Defense lawyers though argue that is the furthest from the truth.
They argue that Lindsay Clancy, after giving birth to a third child, was suffering from postpartum depression, anxiety, that she was sleep deprived, and that she was struggling to find the help that she really needed.
They basically say that the entire healthcare system, especially the mental healthcare system, failed Lindsay Clanty.
That she basically sought help multiple times.
You know, she went to the emergency room.
She did an in-person stay.
