Uh, she got a psychiatrist, she did all these things, she tried out different medications, and nothing was helping her.
If anything, it was making it worse as it got closer to the actual uh incident itself.
uh she suffered from postpartum psychosis, that she basically lost control, was hearing voices in her head telling her to do this, and that contributed to this episode.
Yeah, I mean, if anything, this trial has sparked a national conversation about what it is.
So it's a rare but serious medical emergency.
It's usually characterized by severe rapid-onset psychiatric episodes such as mania, depression, delusions, or hallucinations.
And it can have rapid onset in the days or weeks after childbirth.
And in this case, it's not just what you think of when you talk about postpartum depression.
It is beyond that.
It is
An episode of Hallucinations or Mania, uh, where Lindsay Clancy allegedly lost touch with reality, that in the throngs of an episode of postpartum psychosis, uh, she was hearing a man's voice in her head telling her to kill her children and then kill herself.
That's what defense lawyers allege.
So this entire trial, the last three weeks, 70 witnesses has has been, you know, as you mentioned.
And uh not necessarily debating the facts of the case in terms of what she did.
No one disputes the underlying tragedy here.
It is beyond comprehension uh really the tragedy of this case.
We've seen Lindsay Clancy, if anything, break down in the courtroom multiple times as she's confronted with the reality of what happened here.
The question though has become, what was she suffering from at the time, if she was doing what she could to try to treat it, doing everything in her power, or prosecutors allege that she was basically hopping around and not necessarily taking her medical treatment seriously?
