And if that goes through, if they have that massive combined market share, the judge concluded it's, quote, likely to violate antitrust laws.
The judge also concluded that the states who sued made a strong case that this transaction would lessen competition
and ultimately agreed to grant this temporary restraining order to give the court a bit more time to figure this out.
The states who brought this case argued the courts had to move quickly because of the possibility this deal closes as soon as July 22nd.
So this judge basically put everything on hold for now while they hear arguments over the coming weeks.
David Ellison may think this is an offer we can't refuse.
But I'm here to say...
he's wrong.
For now, there's an August 3rd date for a hearing on a preliminary injunction.
We expect to see more opposition from Paramount in court filings.
And of course, that's when a judge is more likely to reach kind of a longer term decision than this just temporary ruling.
