And not only was there none, I actually watched this country being ruthlessly squashed on the Irish issue by the U.S.
government.
Clinton.
They just crushed us like a beetle over that.
And if there is a special relationship, it's a specially nasty one.
It was amazing to watch.
But they don't.
This is a fantasy.
So we're neither important nor much liked.
And it's important for people to realize this.
But they want to believe.
It's a great compensation, actually, for
for having made, and it was the colossal sacrifice of the Second World War as a country, years of rationing, privation, the deaths of many of the bombing of our cities.
Surely we had to have something.
as a result of all that sacrifice and pain.
And people really wanted to believe that it was our finest hour and that we had emerged from it as a great and powerful nation.
Well, it was our finest hour.
I don't dispute that.
And we fought very bravely and movingly against very large and dangerous forces.
And we suffered a great deal.
