But it's just got me nothing except abuse.
Well, that, of course, is a great compensation.
You should hear me being sarcastic.
We haven't really talked about the attempts to create war.
When I wrote The Phony Victory, my purpose was actually to make a strong case against what seemed to me at the time a drive for war, which I thought would emerge either in Iran or in Russia.
And I thought these countries were both being prepared to become enemies.
And I thought if I could only spread the idea in some way, a mature idea that this is
that as a country, we shouldn't be beguiled into war by this constant repetition of the idea that every single world conflict is a repeat of 1938.
Therefore, that anybody who opposes it is Neville Chamberlain.
Anybody who continues to oppose it after it started is Lord Haw-Haw.
That everybody who's in favor of it is Winston Churchill.
First of all, I show that what we thought about Neville Chamberlain
was not absolutely true.
And also that the whole development of war in late 1930s Europe had no parallels with what's going on in the Europe of today.
And for all the good it did, I might as well have stayed at home.
But that's, it does alarm me.
We're constantly, people are constantly coming
Intelligence chiefs go out and say, we have to prepare for war.
Russia is a great threat.
Well, you can believe that if you want, though I find it a struggle.
