And of course, like everything else, that got canceled.

That we decided that we needed to still acknowledge the performance of our network.

So we did a virtual awards banquet for our event in August.

Uh then as we came into twenty twenty one, we felt that we still weren't obviously able to get together in person and we didn't

Wanted to go through the whole kind of virtual national conference because you know it's that celebration, that connection that is so important in a franchise community.

And to yes, there's certain things you can do virtually, but it's still not the same.

Yeah.

And so we uh did our awards uh ceremony or banquet in April for the 2020 performance because we felt it was important to do.

But uh it still is never the same as being together and celebrating in person the performance of your system.

Well Stan, I think I am like so many of your guests in that uh that somehow we stumble into franchising as opposed to see, okay, this is my career, this is what I'm gonna do, and and seek out that opportunity.

And that um my story is kind of funny, that uh I actually have a uh under undergraduate degree in Latin American history and and political science.

Uh I went on to do my master's in Latin American history from the University of London.

And

That what I really wanted to do when I grew up was to do policy analysis of US Latin American relations.

And so when I finished my graduate work in London, if you wanna do policy analysis of US, Latin American relations, where would you go?

Washington, DC.

And so I did.

And so I went to Washington and trying to find this great job.

And through a long, funny series of coincidences, I got hired by the International Franchise Association.

Now, at the time, the only thing I knew about franchising was McDonald's as a franchise.
