I don't particularly like that food.

And I knew even less what a trade association was.

And so it was kind of a leap of faith on both sides.

And I was hired as assistant director of development.

And basically, that my job became to

help the IFA recruit members like the joint and make sure that they join for the first time and then they continue to renew their dues and that in that process fell absolutely head over heels in love with the concept of franchising.

No, but no, this is way before that.

This is in nineteen eighty six.

And so I was hired in January of eighty-six by Bill Cherkowski.

Absolutely, absolutely.

And so that uh I I was hired at the association and that uh still had that passion for international.

And so I was there for five years and that uh ultimately created the international department for the association and that uh my job then became to take companies like the joint that were interested in going overseas and set up qualified business appointments for them working through embassies and US Department of Commerce and I didn't

These trade missions around the world.

It was an amazing time.

I thought I was just in the captain seat.

I was so excited.

I loved what I was doing.

I was traveling around the world helping franchise owners go overseas.

And that you're just thinking, okay, you're right where you want to be.

And on one of these trade missions, uh, one of the members of the mission was talking to me, and this is actually at a bar in Paris, you know, in Montmartre, and he's like, How would you like to think about coming to work for me?
