Oh, that's it.
No big deal, right?
There won't be another drip for an hour.
But then, you know, in another hour it will be there.
Timely as taxes and more reliable than gorilla tape.
And that ruins everything.
I have no peace for the other 59 minutes and 59 seconds of every hour.
And that is because, you must understand this, I know it's coming.
All the time.
It occurs to me as I mull these things over, I do not need this watch I have.
It's analog.
It cannot display to the microsecond, nor even to the hundredth of a second.
It's accurate.
It may understand these things in its endlessly repeating, self-winding, non-electrical mind.
But if so, it cannot show it.
I do have a cell phone, though I'm not sure why.
And my brain keeps time better than that.
It's regulated by the drip, you see.
My sense of time recalibrates every hour.
