Orban's opponent, Peter Magyar, has been pledging to rebuild Hungary's relationships with the European Union and NATO.

EU President Ursula von der Leyen congratulating Magyar with a statement saying, Europe's heart is beating stronger in Hungary tonight.

Orban had been endorsed by President Trump, and the Hungarian leader was also seen as a loyalist to Russia's Vladimir Putin, who would never allow Ukraine to join NATO.

Orban conceded defeat, saying the election result is clear, it's painful for us, and they congratulated the winning party.

And that winning party is 45-year-old Peter Magyar of the center-right TISA party.

Magyar campaigned on issues affecting ordinary voters from public health care, transportation, and what he described as rampant government

corrupts it.

If Fidesz tries to send a message that he is a bad guy, he is a narcissist, he beats his wife, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera, people think, yes, we know. And would you vote for such a guy? Yes, we would. The Hungarian election result on the 12th of April will be watched closely around the world.
