But to your question, Don and I were chatting earlier today.
We were workshopping his next Substack piece.
And the theme that we stumbled upon is that journalism at its core is a combination of compassion and clarity.
And what I think a lot of folks are losing sight of right now is that you can walk and chew gum at the same time.
You can lead with your heart.
You can
at the start of every single story, lift up the lives of both the victims who we lost in the storm and the lives of their family and provide dignity and provide sympathy.
But then also in the next step,
hold people accountable and talk about why this disaster was as bad as it was.
Talk about how a third, if I'm not mistaken, of FEMA's permanent full-time workforce has been fired or pushed into an early retirement.
That's right.
There have been massive cuts to the NOAA.
