They were taxes on Americans.
Americans paid all the tariffs.
We could debate that.
That doesn't mean that the tariffs weren't paid by Americans.
Maybe the prices would have gone down by more.
But, you know, from definition, the tariff is paid by the importer, not by the exporter.
They collect it in the United States.
Well, then some American company must have absorbed that temporarily because... Well, what their argument was... China didn't cut their prices by 16%.
Well, yeah.
You don't know what happened other than, you know, other than that one price increase, what would have happened absent the tariff to those particular prices or, you know, companies could adjust in the short run.
But a tariff is just like paying rent, paying salaries, paying insurance, paying rent, all of the cost of doing business.
Hmm.
ultimately has to get absorbed by the consumer in prices.
And the reason that entrepreneurs are always looking for ways to lower their costs
is so then they can charge less and make more money.
They can do higher volume.
Well, the government won't have to print any money.
I mean, it doesn't mean they won't.
But obviously, to the extent that we can have intelligent robots doing manual labor,
and just AI, you know, computer programs doing intellectual labor, that means we don't have to do it.
