But that might not mean that they're up 10%.
It may mean that they would have gone down 3%, but instead they went up 7%.
The difference is...
is 10%.
That is a real loss to the consumer.
I would have gotten to buy something 3% cheaper, but instead the government created inflation and now it's 7% more expensive.
That's 10%.
And that purchasing power didn't disappear.
It was transferred to the government.
And then the government gave it to somebody else because the government, you know, they wrote a check for social security benefits or welfare or food stamps or to pay the military and they didn't collect it in taxes.
So how does the government pay out money that it didn't collect in taxes?

And when you create new money and you give it to somebody, they spend it.
It just drives up prices because now you have more demand, you know, without a commensurate increase in supply.
When the government.
raises revenue through taxation, that doesn't happen because it takes money away from me.
So now I can't spend it.
And now somebody else is spending the money instead of me.
And so it doesn't push prices up the way just creating money.
Now, if government workers were actually productive and added to the supply of goods, then their spending wouldn't push up prices.
