But I think it's bold and I get the feeling the country's maybe ready for a bit of boldness.
I suspect that if you were to get people to write down a list in a blank sheet of paper of what their most important priorities are, I don't think ending homelessness would be on even their first A4 page.

Then most people would go, yes.
But I think it goes more than that.
I think it's something which is a visible sign of a society that's not quite right.
So it's a visible sense of the country perhaps not doing as comprehensively well as it could.
And it ties into his other big pledge in a speech, which is this is to be a government which is based on basically kind of people.
Trying to tap into the humanity of people.
Hope was a word that he uses quite a lot.
And he knows he probably has a limited amount of time in which to do that.
I think it's quite clever.
You can understand it very simply.
And he's given himself a target by which he's happy to be judged.
And I think voters will quite like that.
He was the defence secretary throughout the Steinberg government until literally a matter of weeks ago, where he resigned in a very sudden move that surprised a lot of people.
He resigned because he said this longstanding defence investment plan the government had been putting together over many, many months didn't have enough money.
And he's quite authoritative.
