And the reasons for that are
That we do expect that economic growth and corporate earnings growth in 2019 will slow compared to 2018.
And we do absolutely believe the Fed has done hiking interest rates.
Those are the things that drove the dollar stronger last year.
Stronger U.S.
economy, a very aggressive Fed.
Those issues are off the table.
So with the dollar weaker.
Gold tends to trade inversely, commodities generally, to dollar movement.
And then because of all this volatility and the concern about trade with China and all these international risks that I talked about, there is a sense of looking to gold as a store of value.
So I think those are the two key issues that are driving gold right now.
We don't have a specific recommendation to own a percentage –
a certain percentage of gold in the portfolio.
But there are some investors that like to have a small basket of commodities, gold, energy, crude oil, agricultural commodities like corn or wheat or soybeans.
And so having a small percentage, a couple of percentage in the portfolio as a hedge against different things that are going on in the world is certainly a valid strategy.
