So if water is available... Well, I mean, I just had to make that, you know, things that... It goes way beyond that age cohort, let's be fair.

Yeah, no, that's fair.

If water is given to them every kind of day near the surface, the roots kind of stay shallow.

But if water becomes scarce, you need those deeper roots into it.

So actually, you know, watering deeply and less often...

is far better than kind of giving a light sprinkle every night again.

So, you know, the hosepipe ban at the minute, you know, people are like, oh, things are going to die out and my lawn's brown or anything else.

It's more of a case of when you do get the opportunity to do it, it's actually watering it deeply and kind of soaking the grass.

Yeah, that kind of thing, like I said, it can survive several weeks to do with that deep soil.

And when you consider that a typical garden hose can use somewhere between 500 to 1,000 liters of treated water every hour.

And the treated water, I suppose, is the bit as well.

That's water that's been collected, cleaned, filtered, disinfected, pumped all the way to your house.

Now, obviously, sometimes we use that to poop in, which boggles my mind so that we spend so much money doing all of this to water and then we do it.

But you're wasting a lot of energy and I suppose effort that's gone into clean it as well.

So the hosepipe can use a huge amount.

There are simple things that you can do to help, I suppose, with the grass staying more alive than without wasting water.

One of the easiest things to do is actually just to raise the height of your mower because longer grass shades the soil, keeps it cooler and reduces evaporation.

So it encourages deeper roots and provides a better habitat then for insects and pollinators.

So if your neighbor's asking you, why haven't you cut the lawn?

You're not being lazy.
