Yeah, so income protection pays you a monthly benefit based on your ability to go to work or not.
So if you can't work because of an injury, illness or sickness, then you'll get paid income protection.
Now, if you're made redundant or you quit your job, you're not getting paid for that.
It's only for health reasons.
Trauma or critical illness is a lump sum payment.
So you've got to be diagnosed with a serious medical condition or have a serious medical condition happen.
So something like heart attack, strokes and cancers.
Cancer is pretty much the majority of all claims.

So if you have a heart attack, you get rushed to hospital and then your recovery is fine.
I'm kind of out of work, out of hospital within a few weeks and maybe I can work because I sit at a desk.
Maybe I'm not eligible for income protection because I've got to serve a waiting period.
And so I can theoretically go back to work.
So that trauma payment will still be paid.
But if you have something like cancer and you're going through treatment and you're either scaling back work significantly or just not working at all, that's when you'll get paid both.
