So Cheryl Coburn-Brown, you're manager of Mulroney Arts Centre?
Well, I'm the founder.
I'm the mission director and founder of Mulroney Arts.
We bought this convent in 2019 because we were operating further up the road in a large studio and accommodation for our students.
When we needed to expand, because I've been running retreats here for about 25 years on a smaller scale, and then they're sort of growing and growing.
And then they just took it off the market.
And three years later, I knocked on his door and said, I need a space.
Would you be interested?
And he said, yes.
And in no time at all, we were restoring it.
And we now have a beautiful classroom and there's an oratory that we use, the old nun's chapel and lovely kitchen we've built and dining room.
But even that grew and we needed more space.
Where this building is was a big hill full of rhododendron and
bushes so we started excavating it for some space and the excavation material was put down a hill which was right here so before we knew it we had more land that we've turned into a lawn and a performance space.
quite serendipitously, actually.
And this you call the hug?
The big hug, yes.
There's something occurs to me with all of the thunder and lightning warnings that we have had in the forecast in the last day or two.
Just get in touch with Mulroney Art Centre if you're intending on going and seeing that show over the course of the weekend because hanging around six, seven metre poles sticking up into the air might not necessarily be the wisest thing to do.
