Off the rails from the U.S.
Faster Payments Council.
Thanks for having me, Reid.
Great.
Thanks for that.
I'm happy to talk about the things that we are doing here at MasterCard.
And I would also argue to say through MasterCard's history from its inception around cards and credit cards and debit cards, one might consider those a version of a faster payment.
If you think about that, the first payment we were replacing was a check.
And so we've continued very much to build on the network that's been developed that has enabled individuals and businesses to transact using cards and thought about how that continues to evolve as our times have evolved, right?
So
Back in 2016, MasterCard acquired a company called Vocalink that developed the software that was used for the UK faster payment system and took that technology and has expanded it to other markets around the world, along with an acquisition in the Nordics that we did from a business called Nets.
And we took the combination of those two businesses and now MasterCard
either our software or we manage the service in 12 different countries around the world.
And that represents something around a quarter of the current instant payment transactions that are occurring are flowing through either a MasterCard managed service or on MasterCard software.
So it is very much our view of
the role we play in payments, and we see our competition as being cash, right?
Very simply.
So when we think about that, we think about all the different ways in which we can ensure that we can take our history and know-how around managing a network,
and providing payment services that are reliable and have security and thinking about how that gets transformed to account-to-account payments or wallets.
And so we're really thinking about how we transform that know-how and are operating these services in these 12 countries, but then also, quite frankly, enabling the other ways in which payments are transforming around the world.
