Well, that's the thing.
Why Cuba?
You know, at the height of the Cold War, these little places around the world, given the global stakes, become incredibly important.
I mean, when you think about it, right?
I mean, Cuba is awesome, right?
Very nice people.
But the world almost ended over that tiny island, right?
Under JFK, Laos, landlocked Laos, 2 million people, is considered like the finger in the dike, right?
If Laos becomes communist...
all of Southeast Asia.
And so Vietnam, that's the thing, right?
In the context of the Cold War, occupies this important place.
So communism cannot be allowed to win in Vietnam because I think Johnson himself thought that if we lose in Vietnam, next thing you know, we'll be fighting them on the beaches of Waikiki.
Yeah, but they believe it, Don, and that's the thing.
They have every reason to believe it in light of what's been happening in Asia.
Again, hindsight, it's so easy to say, oh, we overreacted.
But at the time, knowing what Johnson knows, I don't think anything he does is malicious.
