And I think the amazing thing is there's nothing elegiac or solemn about Basita's work.
It's so in your face and bold.
I guess I needed to handle her work at that moment when everything felt the opposite of...
the highly textured, highly saturated world that she created.
And, you know, these are incredible, incredible works.
And, you know, I think as people have become more aware of this incredible body of work that she's made, you know, it's been nice to be able to share the burden and the labour with others.
But I think there was a point, you know, before galleries were involved where I was the one kind of cold calling museum curators and,
and asking them if they wanted to buy work.
Like I had Bacitas inside my jacket or something.
And I was actually pleasantly surprised that they all kind of responded positively to these comments.
These unsolicited emails.
But no, I think I can take a little bit of credit in how the kind of gospel of Basita has spread.
But ultimately, it's her incredible work that does everything.
I love watching people look at her work.
And I love it when people sit down and almost like watch these trapuntos, which is what she called these big paintings.
They watch it like a film.
They're epic.
